Vanderbilt University

Nashville is known for being home to music legends, but it is also known to being home to one of the nation’s top universities: Vanderbilt University. Vanderbilt is a private research university located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. The university opened in 1875 and is rich in southern history. It is also filled with talent as one of the nation’s most highly selective universities and as of 2015 is ranked the 16th best university in the nation.

Vanderbilt University is home to the Vanderbilt Commodores football team, which competes in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Commodores play their home games at Vanderbilt stadium, which is located in Nashville at the university’s main campus. They played their first game in 1890 in the state of Tennessee and were one of the seven founding members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA).

Since winning their first game in 1890, the Commodores have had notable success. The team has played in 7 bowl games, 4 of which they won and 1 of which they tied in. They have had two National Championship Selections, 14 Conference Championships, and many players move onto the NFL. They have also had five players and five coaches inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The Commodores has a large group of rival teams, including Ole Miss, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Sewanee. Regardless of who the team is playing, however, fans will always be spotted in black and gold, which are the team’s colors. Like other SEC team fans, the Commodores’ fans take gameday seriously. So whether you are attending an alumni event, the game, a tailgate, or a sorority/fraternity event you will need your best black and gold outfit!
